untitled...
(okay i kinda cheated with that song title... but i just had to show you this. my family all read poems after thanksgiving dinner... and this was the one that my uncle wrote... omg it's hilarious! a few things you must understand for this poem to make sense: 1)most of my family was at volleyball senior night; 2)you might not know what "misnomer" means... just keep reading and don't worry about it lol; 3) my Grandfather's been the President of more than one college, and he's rather smart; 4) most schools are much bigger on the whole "shoe" thing than we are; 5) my Aunt Susie is an absolute clean freak. okay... i think that's all)
"One Flu Over the Volleyball Net"
As we gather on this Thanksgiving
Surrounded by family and friends
If we truly counted our blessings
We would see that our list never ends
One thing I count as a blessing
Just between me and you
Is that somehow this fall I avoided
The dreaded volleyball flu
The Cair Paravel team was really hit hard
And of 10, they say it felled 8
And I think if we looked even closer we'd find
The other two weren't feeling that great
This illness struck all their opponents,
Some parents, and classmates too
And no one could tell just what was the cause
Of this mysterious volleyball flu
The name "flu" may be a misnomer
Because no one really can tell
Just what it was that laid them all low
And made them feel not so well
Was the culprit the food or the water?
Or perhaps some uncovered Ah-choos?
Grandpa say's he's figured it out
The contestants were licking their shoes
They would lick their fingers and rub their shoes
And then they'd hit the ball
And so by doing this one little thing
They spread illness to one and all
If what Grandpa surmises is true
(And his wisdom is hard to ignore)
Then maybe Japan and Aunt Susie are right
We should all leave our shoes at the door
